ITIL Primer
ITIL stands for Information Technology Infrastructure Library and was developed under the premise that organizations were becoming increasingly dependent upon IT to fulfill their corporate objectives. This growing dependency gave way to the need for those IT services to maintain quality standards that corresponded to the objectives of the business, which in turn relate to the requirements and expectations of the customer. ITIL is literally a set of books developed by the British government to provide a set of best practices for IT service processes to provide effective and efficient services in support of the business. This paper provides a quick introduction to ITIL including the history, definitions, purpose and relevance.
